Ipsum, the specialist engineering services provider, was among the front runners at the recent 2025 UKSTT Awards – a national celebration of excellence in trenchless technology.
The awards recognise innovative approaches to underground infrastructure management, with Ipsum proudly placed in the country’s top three of the ‘Renovation (Small Project)’ category for a complex sewer rehabilitation scheme delivered in partnership with Severn Trent Water.
While Ipsum didn’t claim the overall award for its work on Dale Road in Youlgrave, Derbyshire, the project nevertheless stands as an outstanding example of sustainable engineering in action.
The project involved relining a 550-metre sewer beneath one of the Peak District’s most environmentally sensitive locations. The deteriorating pipe had become a significant pollution risk to the River Bradford, a popular tourist destination. Previous patch repairs had proved unsustainable, prompting Severn Trent to commission Ipsum to deliver a long-term solution.
Using no-dig methods via its Trenchless Technologies team, Ipsum completed the full-system rehabilitation without excavation, minimising disruption to the community and protecting local biodiversity. Despite restricted access, high groundwater, and severe winter weather, the project was delivered on time, under budget, and with zero safety incidents.
Mark Kaney, Managing Director for Water & Infrastructure at Ipsum, said:
“We’re delighted to have been shortlisted for these prestigious awards and proud to be recognised alongside other leaders in innovation and delivery. This was a complex project and the team’s success reflects meticulous planning, agile execution and close collaboration with Severn Trent Water.”
