Network & asset maintenance

At Ipsum, we specialise in installing, maintaining and repairing LV, HV and EHV electrical distribution systems and associated assets. Our Power division possesses extensive knowledge in electrical plant, cable and overhead line systems, protection, automation and control. We provide statutory inspection services and asset repairs or upgrades to ensure system efficiency, thus preventing risks associated with productivity downtime and losses.

Our team collaborates with clients to schedule planned maintenance at convenient times and keeps them informed throughout the process. Strategically situated across the UK, our fully trained and authorised engineers are able to identify and solve electrical problems whilst working with supply chain partners to quickly source replacement equipment and deliver efficient turnaround times.

Taking a proactive approach to both network and asset maintenance is a key enabler to preventing costly asset breakdowns and the risk of unnecessary costs by extending equipment life. We provide non-intrusive condition assessments on live equipment and deliver comprehensive maintenance programmes designed around shutdown periods.

Jointing services

Ipsum’s team of highly skilled cable jointers are authorised to work on multiple distribution networks (DNOs) and are proficient in a diverse range of cable and joint types. Our jointers are capable of working on public and private networks up to and including 11kV, 33kV and 132kV, ensuring that we can cater to all needs.

Providing national coverage, our jointing teams are available around the clock to ensure that each job is completed with no compromise to health, safety or quality.

Our jointers are experienced in unlooping, street lighting, live low-voltage, paper insulated cables, polymeric insulated cables, LV, HV and EHV systems.

Overhead line infrastructure

We offer a comprehensive range of overhead line services to meet a wide scope of needs. Our expertise includes survey, inspection, design, construction, and refurbishment for LV to 132kV wood pole overhead lines.

We have successfully completed a wide range of projects, from LV faulty pole replacement programmes, pole mounted LV monitoring systems, to major 132kV Trident line new construction initiatives. Ipsum has an in-house experienced and authorised overhead line resource operating nationally on both planned and reactive works. The team are trained to provide emergency support to the UK’s major DNOs during severe weather events across the UK.

Overhead line services include pole inspections and defect pole clearance, LV replacements of primary and secondary services, HV and EHV construction and refurbishment, LV and HV D-pole replacement, generation connections, and storm and emergency response.

Substation refurbishment works

Our expansive and demonstrable track record in delivering a diverse range of substation services taps into our multi-discipline and cross-sector workforce. We have worked on a broad range of works including standalone upgrades, and larger design and build projects such as distribution depots, transportation upgrades, and renewable energy facilities.

We collaborate with major energy providers such as Electricity North West, UK Power Networks, Scottish Power, National Grid, alongside private network owners such as United Utilities, Ministry of Defense (MoD), Sheffield Forgemasters, Tesco and Sainsburys. Importantly, we offer full scale works inclusive of comprehensive civil engineering support within site boundaries. This includes road access, drainage, fencing, and structures due to our multi-disciplinary capabilities.

Our approach to turnkey substation engineering and end-to-end project management activities ensures we facilitate and manage every aspect of the project via our in-house capability, reducing multiple unnecessary hand-offs and site based risks while focusing on safety performance and driving cost-certainty for our clients.

Battery and solar (PV) installation

Our solar power and battery storage solutions, include design, installation, civils, asset maintenance, repair, and system upgrades to provide a practical and effective way to reduce your energy costs and increase the adoption of reliable and sustainable solutions.

As a HV specialist, our team has the capabilities and authorisation to work on projects up to 132kV.  This broad ranging capability enables us to deliver a complete turnkey scope of complex installations, whilst working in full collaboration with clients to understand their power system needs.

We offer PV battery storage systems that are compatible with any solar panel system, whether installed as part of a new system or retrofitted to an existing one. Not only that, Ipsum is also a certified Tesla Megapack installer, demonstrating our capabilities and reflecting our ambition to lead the way in the energy transition.

ICP (new connections)

Ipsum is a leading provider of low and high-voltage technical Independent Connection Provider (ICP) solutions, offering a wide range of engineering services for new DNO or IDNO connections.

As an ICP, we possess the necessary skills, expertise, and experience to expand the DNOs network, enabling additional electrical connections to be made to the private network.

Our comprehensive turnkey service covers all aspects of the project, including initial application and feasibility studies, through to final adoption, activation, and transfer to the local DNO.

As a Lloyds NERS accredited ICP, we have the expertise and in-house design and build capability able to undertake the varying aspects of contestable works up to and including 33kV. This means we can provide a competitive alternative to your local Distribution Network Operator (DNO), by delivering simplified or complex network connections and major project works safely and efficiently.
