Ipsum’s Power division has secured an extension to its SP Electricity North West unlooping contract in Didsbury and Withington, reinforcing its pivotal role in strengthening and future-proofing the region’s electricity network. This contract extension demonstrates the ongoing trust Electricity North West places in Ipsum’s expertise and commitment to delivering high-quality infrastructure projects that support the UK’s Net Zero ambitions.
The unlooping works will provide each property with a dedicated electricity service connection, improving safety, reliability, and network capacity. Importantly, the upgrades will enable households to adopt low-carbon technologies such as electric vehicles, heat pumps, and solar panels, helping communities transition to cleaner energy solutions.
Unlooping is the process of separating shared electricity supply cables between neighbouring homes. This ensures there is sufficient capacity for growing electricity demand, particularly as more homes switch to electric transport and heating. By reducing reliance on shared connections, unlooping not only improves network reliability but also enhances safety and supports the adoption of low-carbon technologies.
Lee Maxwell, Managing Director of Power at Ipsum, said, “Congratulations to Gareth Hill and the entire team on securing this extension. Electricity North West’s continued confidence in Ipsum reflects the quality of work being delivered, often in challenging conditions, and our commitment to supporting customers across Didsbury and Withington.
We’re proud to continue working in partnership with Electricity North West to future-proof the network and help enable the transition to low-carbon technologies.”
The extension comes at a time of growing demand for electricity infrastructure improvements across the UK, as the country accelerates its shift to electrified transport and heating. Projects like this not only support cleaner energy use but also ensure local electricity networks are prepared to meet future energy demands safely and efficiently.
