Innovation:

Using technology to keep our teams safe onsite

In a world that is obsessed with technology, the sector is always on the look out for ways to reduce costs and programmes. However, it’s often overlooked how important technology is for keeping our workforce safe.

In the water sector, our teams often find themselves in confined spaces underground for significant periods of time. By utilising our 3D scanning technology, we can reduce the need for people entering manholes and therefore reducing risk. It also provides better accuracy of underground infrastructure and therefore removes the need for revisits.

It’s on complex programmes that we see the true benefits of 3D scanning. The scans log points of interest which can be taken away and a full 3D image can created off the back of it. It shows the critical infrastructure for what it is and a programme can be built around the maintenance and repairs that are needed.

Innovation:

Modern methodologies cut programme by two thirds

In a UK town that is completely dependent on passing traffic for commerce, a projected 12-week closure wasn’t viable. It would cut the down off and harm the local economy.

Ipsum reviewed a potential programme looking to rehabilitate critical sewage infrastructure, and through surveys identified the opportunity to utilise trenchless methodologies. The team used a specialist UV materials that expands by 20% allowing them to revise the project timescale. Not only that, the technology also provided substantial CO2 savings and a 62% reduction in costs.

And even with the substantial difference in programme length, the team still opened the road three days earlier than projected by the revised programme.
