Ipsum's New Managing Director of
Water and Infrastructure

Mark Kaney

Mark Kaney has been appointed as Ipsum’s new Managing Director of Water and Infrastructure effective May, 2022. Mark will work alongside Richard Thomas, the CEO of Ipsum, and the existing board of directors. His appointment follows a number of senior-level position appointments in recent months as the company continues to prioritise compliant growth.

Mark will coordinate the services of Ipsum’s National Water and Infrastructure division, one of its core sectors. Stephen Bruce, the current Managing Director of Water for Ipsum, will retire early to honour his years of outstanding work, dedication, and commitment to the water industry. Stephen joined Ipsum’s executive leadership team as the Managing Director of their Water Division following the acquisition of the company he founded by Ipsum, and has since been instrumental in ensuring Ipsum’s success.

Mark brings a wealth of experience and expertise to Ipsum, having held a variety of senior positions in both asset-owning and consultancy organisations in the utilities sector. Mark joins Ipsum from Binnies, who were part of RSK Group, where he held the role of Director of Asset Management. With over 20 years’ experience and a track record of success in the UK and internationally in the areas of strategic change, digital transformation, portfolio delivery, managing business risk, and regulatory interfaces, Ipsum is confident that he will accelerate their success and support the achievement of the company’s strategic objectives.

Mark is a frequent speaker and contributor at some of the industry’s most prestigious events. He believes that education is essential to the success of future generations, which is why he frequently participates in webinars and interviews to share and discuss industry knowledge and concerns. Mark believes that digital adoption is crucial to the success of the Water and wider utility industries, and he will always prioritise digital adoption and a technology led approach in a company’s methods of operation.

Mark considers proactively enabling sustainability and meeting environmental challenges to be of the utmost importance, and he feels strongly about these issues, which is why he strives ceaselessly to ensure that significant change occurs. He has led teams that have won numerous awards, including the Institute of Asset Management’s Digital Innovation and Corporate Transformation awards, and he is a firm believer in building dynamic brands.

Ipsum’s CEO, Richard Thomas, said: “Our focus for the coming years is to continue growing the company in a controlled and compliant way. We immediately identified Mark as being the right person to help us oversee the next stage of Ipsum’s journey.”

Mark Kaney added, “I am very happy to be joining Ipsum at an exciting time for the business.” The scale of societal, environmental, and performance challenges that we face in the next few years is huge. We need good people, digitally enabled services, and a fresh mindset in terms of both the “what” and the “how” in order to meet them. I will be working hard to be sure Ipsum is a strong voice in that conversation and play a part in meeting those challenges!
