How we evolved...

Our senior engineers and directors have held various roles in the new connections market, working initially for DNOs and then major EPCs that entered the market as competition-in-connections gathered pace.

We have been involved in all aspects of new connections, from acting as industry designers and consultants, to challenging DNOs on cost and network reinforcement issues. We have considerable experience in the contestable connections market as a Lloyds accredited Independent Connections Provider (ICP), working under the requirements of the National Electricity Registration Scheme (NERS).

Since Ipsum expanded its NERS accreditation to encompass construction aspects, we have delivered a large number of new connections, ranging from low voltage connections to domestic dwellings, connections to commercial and industrial developments and complex connections for distributed generation schemes.

DNO Network Reinforcements

In some cases, DNO network reinforcement is required to facilitate a connection and some element of reinforcement is classified as contestable work.

Ipsum is able to carry out network reinforcement as part of the contestable connection, however we will always question the need for reinforcement by capitalising on our skill-set in electricity network design and planning. After all, we have worked on the ‘other side of the fence’, we have the in-house expertise and let’s face it, errors of judgement at DNO planning offices can and do happen.

We have a very successful track record in challenging DNOs on the requirements for reinforcement as well as challenging the apportionment/contribution that our customers are asked to make.

We can supply testimonials from our clients for a large number of projects where we have successfully challenged DNOs and actually managed to arrange significant refunds. Furthermore, challenging connection and reinforcement costs can also be done retrospectively – please give us a call if you need any advice on reinforcement charges.
